BOXHEAD is a surreal and nightmarish glimpse into the inner life of an aging recluse. The man lives in a dilapidated apartment, shut-off from the outside world. His only company is in the form of something well beyond human, an entity he calls 'Boxhead', which he created as a child to ease his loneliness. The man's fears and alienation feed Boxhead, making him much more than an imaginary friend. The power which grows within Boxhead forces the man to confront his deepest horrors, and pit him against himself. The man has several encounters with various characters, all except one, a young girl, feeding his paranoia and fears. The young girl plays the clarinet. Her music makes the man feel safe once again, and the two connect. But the other encounters lead to continued anguish in the man, and Boxhead inspires the man to further isolate himself, and ultimately do harm upon those that threaten him. The man is torn between the fear that leads him to violent thoughts and actions, and the solace of music and innocence. Boxhead grows more dangerous and powerful as the man's fears and hatred are roused. And he/it makes that fear flesh. A living nightmare is given form.Boxhead remains the man's only friend, and all that stand between them must suffer. The man's humanity must be forgotten, and the innocence of the girl, of the music, of his boyhood, must be lost. The film is ultimately about the frailty of that innocence and the ease in which it can be twisted and malformed into something horrifying.
